Let me introduce myself, my name is Brent Higgs and I have been do the entrepreneurial thing for over sixteen years. I have vast experience in multiple arenas from information technology and internet services to construction industry, food services industry, entertainment industry and retail industry.
Education:
I have never been one for formal education and was someone who did not excel in traditional education settings. Though I have completed High School, graduating in 1997 with a computer sciences diploma. I was far from being on the honour role. I did how ever attempt to attend college in 2000 but ended up dropping out of the Stagecraft Program after one semester. I had found that they where trying to teach me stuff that I had already taught myself.
I would say I am a self paced learner if something interests me I will take the time to dive in and learn it on my own.
Work History:
From a young age I have always had a good work ethic. It started when I first had a paper route in my neighbourhood where I grew up. I also was employed as a sales representative at the age of 13 for a software and computer retailer. While I was still in high school I was employed by the School District in their Information Technology Department as a system administrator for grade 11 and beyond graduation.
in late 1999, early 2000 I did do work for a financial institution as a data entry clerk. As I had mentioned earlier that I did have a short attempt at post secondary education in late 2000. Which then brings me to one of my first and longest running entrepreneurial ventures. in early 2001 I was contracted by Langara College Continuing Studies to manage and administrate a brand new off campus computer labs. This is when I started Brent Dynamics.
After my contract was up with Langara College Continuing Studies, I re-entered the work force in the temp labour arenna. Where i worked several different types of jobs from construction work to warehouse work for several years. While maintaining and operating Brent Dynamics.
In Late 2004 I ended up getting a full time employment with a Fire and Flood restoration company where I worked as their in house Information Technology, warehouse manager, labour, project manager, scheduler for several years. I ended up having to leave the restoration company as I was being bullied and pressured by the office manager who felt it necessary to change my job description on a bi-weekly basis.
After my departure from the Restoration company I had several very short term employments in a variety of industries from Recycling, Food Service, Customer Service and retail. Due to the psychological trauma that was caused by the manager at the restoration company I ended up not being able to function in any job that I had. This is why no I am focusing primarily on entrepreneurial ventures.
Life Challenges:
Life would not be life without a challenge or two. That being said I have a couple of challenges that affect me. The first challenge that I face is my Vision Impairment. Right out of the gates my main challenge is my eyesight. When I was born I was born with congenital cataracts in both eyes. Just before I turned one I under went cataract surgery to remove both cataracts from my eyes. From that young age I have been wearing corrective lenses. Even with the corrective lenses, my eyesight is no where near perfect. With my eyesight as it is I am unable to obtain my drivers license. That being said I have struggled with transportation, which has limited me to the types of jobs I can acquire.
Another challenge that I struggle with is Depression and Anxiety though it is managed I still have some not so great days. I would say I have struggled with depression for most of my life, but in recent years it has taken a greater toll on my life. With depression comes anxiety which can cause me to shut down completely. Due to the nature of my depression and anxiety I am unable to retain consistent employment for a long periods of time.
My entrepreneurial ventures are not my only source to meet all my financial needs but is more a way that I am able to supplement myself to give myself a better quality of life.
